We are currently the only major air operator in Canada who is not represented by ALPA.

Porter started as a small company with a handful of airplanes. Many pilots were on a first-name basis with the founder and CEO. Porter’s management and pilots had a great relationship from the start, and worked hard to maintain it over the years. A close management-pilot relationship becomes increasingly challenging as an airline grows, but despite this, our pilots have historically felt represented by the FOAG Committee and our former DFO, who has always advocated on our behalf.

Porter is now on track to become a major airline. All pilot groups at major airlines in North America are represented by a union, except Porter. At one point this may have seemed like a testament to the scrappy and modern character of our company, but it’s now clear that it is time for us to catch up with our peers. Inevitably for an airline with growth and expansion as meteoric as Porter, we have outgrown the FOAG process.

Our organizing committee came together out of a desire to secure a strong future for ourselves as pilots. We aim to elevate our status as a pilot group and join an industry leading network of pilots dedicated to improving safety and professionalism. Throughout this process, we aim to maintain the excellent working relationship that our pilots and managers have developed over the years.

As it grows into a major Canadian airline, we are striving to keep Porter the best airline to work for in Canada.

We strive for a strong pilot-management relationship based on mutual respect.
